Fire Your Therapist!

A YOUNG WOMAN WAS SINGING THE PRAISES OF HER THERAPIST.

She believes everybody needs one.

I told her that I have the best: the LORD. He listens patiently as I pour out my heart to Him

Fire the therapist!

Psalm 31:1— “In you, Lord, I have taken refuge….”

He cares when I whine and complain.

He doesn’t judge me as I confess my sins and shortcomings.

Psalm 31:2— “Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.”

If I’m too tired, frustrated, angry or sad, and have nothing to say, he understands. When I have nowhere else to go, no place to hide, I have him.

Psalm 31:3— “Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.”

One pitfall of being a pastor is that I don’t have many I can share my troubles and burdens with. But I have my God. He gently directs me because I’m slow to get it sometimes, yet he’s persistent, doesn’t hold my cluelessness and obtuseness against me, and is so, so gracious.

Psalm 31:7— I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.”

Jesus is not only the Great Physician, but also our Wonderful Counselor.

And he doesn’t charge by the hour.
