Well-Intentioned Sinners

WHAT A CRACK UP! Did you read that bold declaration from the Israelites? They even said it again!

“Moses took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, ‘We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.’” (Exodus 24:7)

We laugh because that’s us.

Roman’s 7:15— “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”

We want to obey and do what’s right but end up playing the hypocrite! You’d think after all these years of walking with Christ, we’d know better and do better.

“For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:18-19)

Should we just give up? Tear our clothes, dress in sackcloth, and roll around in dust and ashes? No. The Israelites remind us that we are also sinners. Yet sinners saved by grace through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God….” (Ephesians 2:8)

Christ’s death on a cross brought forgiveness when we repented and trusted in him. He died for all our broken promises, failures, and hypocrisies. We must continue to repent again and again, over and over, always remembering that great promise that Paul wrote when he did what he did not want to do in Roman’s 8:1—

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus….”

Hallelujah! No condemnation, fellow hypocrite.
